Compression Stockings

What are they?

Compression stockings are specialised elastic hosiery designed to prevent the occurrence and progression of venous conditions, such as oedema, ulceration, varicose veins, and deep vein thrombosis.

How do they work?

The pressure provided by the compression stockings act to reduce the diameter of major veins in the legs. This increases the blood flow upward towards the heart to reduce swelling and discomfort.

How can you get them?

Our physiotherapists are trained in providing thorough assessments and measurements to identify which type of compression stocking is best for you. We can also provide education and tools required to assist in the application of the stockings.

Did you know?

  • An increase in flakiness of the skin is a sign of improved blood circulation, not a sign of allergy or negative reaction!

  • Regular washing of compression stockings is not only hygienic, but also helps to maintain the integrity of the Lycra, ensuring it remains effective.

  • Some ingredients of moisturisers destroy the elastane in the stockings, meaning they lose their compressive ability. You can ask your physiotherapist for further tips!
